SOLID GROUND

People today are looking for solid ground, an anchor, something that has staying power in a speed driven world. They seek an immovable rock upon which they can plant their feet, build a life, a family, and a future.  People seek a shelter where they can rest and find protection, a sure place where they can always be fully accepted.  They seek unconditional love, a power-backed love.

Looking for solid ground?  Plant your mental feet on the following…

When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake…Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.  Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat.  But Jesus was sleeping.   The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us!  We’re going to drown!”

He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”  Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.  The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this?  Even the winds and waves obey him!”  Matthew 8.18,23-27 NIV

Wow!  Wouldn’t you like to have a solid friend like that who can command the wind and waves you face?  You can!

First, trust Jesus with your destination on the other side of Life.  Who gave the orders to the cross to the other side of the lake?  Jesus!  He is the only one who can cross the lake of life safely.  Only Jesus knows the destination on the other side of life and how to get there.  Who gives the orders in your life?  If you alone are in command, you are likely out of control.  Life is too big, too complicated, too unpredictable to control alone.  We need someone with real power.  We need Jesus.

Second, follow Jesus’ lead.  Who got into the boat first?  Jesus!  The disciples followed him.  If you want Jesus you follow his lead.  Get in the boat first and there is great probability you will want to remain in control.  So, remember who gave the orders to cross the lake?  Jesus.  And who knows the destination on the other side of the lake?  Jesus.  When you get in Jesus’ boat, his power goes with you and before you.

Third, believe in Jesus’ willingness to help you.  Who was sleeping when the storm suddenly came up on the lake?  Jesus!  He was not afraid nor was he absent.  He has the power to control, not only the crossing, but the wind and the waves.  He created them.  And he proved this by calming them.  He is also present.  Just speak the name of Jesus and tell him your need.

Trust Jesus with your life.  He knows life’s destination and how to navigate it.  Only He can command the storms of life and set you on solid ground.

To begin a relationship with Jesus, simply tell him you need solid ground.  Tell Jesus you need him in your life and that you want to follow him.  It starts that simply.
